DO I NEED A NEW ROOF?

It’s a question we get asked all the time by homeowners throughout our service area – whether it’s Crown Point, Tinley Park or Dyer roofing – and we’ve got answers. Rogers Roofing can send an experienced roofer in Chicago or Northwest Indiana to your home, where he’ll look for these telltale signs of roof problems.

Granule loss.

It’s normal to observe a small amount of shingle granules in your gutter. These tiny ceramic particles embedded in the shingle shield the asphalt-saturated shingle mat from the drying effects of the sun. An excessive amount of granule loss could indicate hail damage, or simply that the shingles have reached the end of their life expectancy.

Missing shingles.

When shingles blow off of a roof during heavy wind, this could be an indication the sealant has lost its strength and is no longer bonding the shingles together. Missing shingles can sometimes be replaced, a decision determined by the age and condition of the overall roof.

Curling.

Curling of roof shingles frequently occurs as a result of an improperly vented attic. Extreme heat and moisture become trapped underneath the shingle, causing its structure to curl.

Damaged flashing.

Flashing is one of the most common causes of roof leaks. These metal strips which bridge gaps between roofing materials and walls, valleys or roof projections (chimneys, skylights, etc.) can become dislodged or damaged by wind and ice, quickly allowing water to infiltrate.

Moss and algae growth.

Moss traps moisture on the surface of roofing materials and speeds deterioration, while algae feeds on the limestone contained in asphalt shingles and leaves behind dark stains. We can offer solutions to get rid of this unsightly growth.

Rotted wood.

A surprisingly high number of roofs have some form of rot along valleys, flashing, eaves or walls. We’ll inspect these areas and let you know how we can repair the damage.

If you suspect that you have problems with your roof, or if you notice any of the warning signals discussed here, call Rogers Roofing to schedule a roof inspection. Catching roof issues early can save thousands of dollars in repair work down the road.
